Hanamaki Airport, Iwate-ken

Hanamaki 花巻 means "flower roll" and it is the name of a city in Iwate Prefecture, in Tohoku. I wonder where its name comes from. Maybe from the hanamaki sushi.

Some photos taken at the airport of this city, starting with its cute mascot:

At the third level, there is a mini-museum of aviation, with photos of old planes:

And a neat playground for children:

From the upper level, one can see the runway:

  1. As a friend suggested to me today, the last three photos are a representation of a classic Japanese novel:

"In the picture of Hanamaki-Airport of your blog I can see the related thing to Kenji Miyazawa on the wall of Hanamaki-Airport.
There is Night on the Galactic Railroad - 銀河鉄道の夜."

The kanji above are read: "Ginga Tetsudou no Yoru" and the book was written in 1927 and published some years after. The anime film based on this novel and having the same title was made in 1985.
