Koinobori - Carp Flags In Yachiyo Freuden, Hyogo
Koinobori
or “carp streamers” are flown in Japan to celebrate Children’s Day or boys’ day
on 5 May. You can see such “flags” fluttering in the wind from the end of April
to early May. The typical set on one single pole displays two carps in the
upper position – the father and the mother, black and red respectively, then
blue and pink ones for the children. Others are orange or green. “Hundreds” of koinobori
are displayed in Yachiyo Freuden, Hyogo Prefecture. It is picturesque to see so many of them in one place.
