Port Of Kobe Earthquake Memorial Park

It was constructed as a reminder of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake that devastated the southern part of Hyogo on 17 January 1995. In Kobe, about 116 km long of the port’s shoreline was broken, and some parts completely ruined. Some harbour facilities were disabled, too. The damage brought about serious economic depression. It destroyed 247,486 homes and buildings. The memorial park preserves part of Meriken Park as it was immediately after the severe quake.

  1. Reminds you what mother nature can do in a split second. Thank you for sharing those pictures!
By the way, I like the white building in the background on some pictures (4 for example) - people never give up despite the danger - rather inspiring, really.

wish you a super day today :)

    1. That building is the Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel. It is a hotel opened six (!!) months after the Great Hanshin earthquake presented above. It looks lovely, like a luxury liner. :-)

You too, have a nice day tomorrow!
