Koi Fish
Koi (carp) or nishikigoi (brocaded carp) are
ornamental. Koi has been bred in Japan since the 1820s. The red-and-white
pattern is called Kohaku. Koi is a homophone for a word that means love or
affection, so the fish is a symbol of love and friendship in Japan. They can
live for 50 to 100 years.
