Meoto Iwa - The Married Couple Rocks

This is a special place in the Shinto religion. The two rocks are located in the sea off Futami in Mie Prefecture, and they are joined by a rope of rice straw called shimenawa. They represent the union of the Shinto deities Izanagi and Izanami. The bigger rock is the male. And the rope weighs more than a tonne. It is beautiful to see the sun rising between them. Even Mount Fuji can be seen in the distance. The shrine nearby is dedicated to Miketsu, the food goddess. There are many statues of frogs around the shrine.
