Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Nara

There are about 3,000 Kasuga Shrines in Japan, and the main one is in Nara. In 1998, this one was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is a very old shrine, dating from 768. It once belonged to the Fujiwara clan. There are about 1,000 stone lanterns surrounding it, and 2,000 along the path leading to the shrine. A forest of stone lanterns, as I said at visiting this place.
